In the News – The War Against Terrorism

Reading about the latest Israeli intelligent sources discovery that the Hezbollah is receiving payments for the numbers of Israelis killed or wounded, it reinforces the idea that the main objective besides destroying organized terrorism is to stop the flow of funding to them. It might help if the United Nations makes a New Year resolution that any nation that is found to be harboring, implementing and/or funding terrorist organizations will be barred from UN activities, and if present on any committee be expelled from it. For too long now, the UN has been a major hypocrisy, enlisting nations on committees, such as Human Rights, with members being part of the Human Rights problem – for example. In addition, it must clean up its own house of corruption and unethical practices and policies. Otherwise it should be dissolved or reformed to a global entity/organization that only consists of democratic nations. We had a strong voice in the United Nations, but thanks to the bombardment from the Left in America and elsewhere (with the major help coming from the bias media), we have lost John Bolton as a strong voice representing America. Comments from a Reader for 2007

Quills, Iowa sends a philosophy of life as the New Year approaches:

While life may not be the party we hoped for, while we’re here we might as well dance. Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, stiff drink in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming “Woo Hoo! The Fate of the Bush Iraq Policy in 2007

It seems, when reviewing the pundit and political atmosphere, that President Bush despite all of his powers under Article II of the Constitution he has at his disposal will be limited by the 110th Congress when it begins its session in 2007. And, as Ken Renner, guest writer (who has written an Op/Ed and posted today with this one), once mentioned – President Bush still is insisting that more troops be added to what is on the ground in Iraq. Meanwhile, as in 2006, President Bush and his advisors are committed to the current strategy of political reconciliation, reconstruction and counterinsurgency in war-torn Iraq who is trying to struggle to develop a democratic republic and still maintain its loyalty the religion of Islam. A recent report from the Washington Times explains how few new ideas have developed from the Bush recent policy reviews. In a New York Times article, it was discussed how the practicality of troop “surge” options that in order to boost American troop levels by 17,000 to 20,000, Pentagon strategists and planners must consider extending the deployment of two Marine regiments in the Anbar province past their current departure in February. This may also move forward the deployment of several Army brigades that are slated to arrive in Iraq in the spring of 2007. This plan will only boost the troop levels for a period of a few months, during which time, some say, the enemy can easily hide itself until the time is right. Read more »

China a Growing Power by Ken Renner

Guest Writer, Ken Renner:

While socialism is an ideology that seems to be dying in the free markets of developed countries, there is one country that may actually need more of it.  It is ironic that the need for more social equality is where most of us would least expect it. Read more »

In the News – Saddam Hussein Meets His End

Saddam at Gallows Today at 3 am this morning, Saddam Hussein finally got his punishment for his crimes against humanity.
World Net Daily News describes the final hour in their Witness to Execution. Also there is a video of his execution for anyone interested.
In another story by WND, they report that the MSNBC anchor was emotional concerning the execution …
Saddam Hussein’s not the only one choked up over his pending execution. This morning’s breaking announcement that the Iraqi dictator could be hanged within hours left MSNBC anchor J. J. Ramberg gasping for breath herself.
Apparently she just caught a cold. Or was it as WND took it: Read more »

As the New Year Approaches …

Readying your plans for the New Year celebration? Thinking of what the New Year might bring? Maybe formulating a New Year resolution? How about this New Year’s resolution:

I will do all I can, write to senators, representatives, the Attorney General and the President of the United States and protest until a wrong is righted – full pardon of two Border Patrol agents who will spend the last New Year with friends and family before being carted off to prison for at least ten years, unless they are paroled earlier – and if they survive being in prison. I will do all I can to protect the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. I will do all I can to stop the amnesty/guest-worker program pushed by President Bush and those who agree. I will endeavor to be a responsible voter, not paying attention to political entity diatribe, bogus TV ads – but instead look at the background and voting record of the candidate. I will endeavor to stand by those who believe that the Social Security system is the biggest government ripoff in the history of government and, indeed, civilization itself – and encourage those who can, reform it at this point and eventually phase it out into something where it truly belongs to the individual who invests in it. I will endeavor to not stop all social programs, but encourage those who can reform it to do so and stop adding more overly expensive and non-producing programs not worth the money except for those who abuse and rip it off. I will endeavor to let representatives and senators know that the buck stops in Congress, and quit pointing fingers across the political aisle and whoever is in the Oval Office – owe up to their own responsibility and their tasks set forth in the Constitution of the United States of America. I will stand by the side of anyone who is fed up with the judiciary branch of our government, who has become so powerful and shady that they legislate from the bench when an ideology or law cannot be passed successfully through the legislative branch. I will encourage our elected officials to review constantly the legislation in the system and thoroughly review legislation intended to be passed – paying attention to the long-term effects upon the people of America and the American nation, instead of what it will do for special interest groups. I will endeavor to always sift the truth from the sea of misinformation that the media and their political handlers provide. And I will always respect those who serve their country and support them as they perform their missions. And above all, I want to see justice done. Read more »

Snippets – December 28th 2006

Other states of the Union have been keeping an eye on Massachusetts concerning the marriage law initiative that concerns a one man and one woman law that is supposed to pass. The argument is over the fact that state lawmakers have refused to vote on the initiative. The Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts has ruled that it is unconstitutional for state lawmakers to refuse to vote on the initiative. And if they do not pass it, it not only will bring same-sex marriage, but will open the door for those who want multiple spouse marriage. In the past the states of the Union decided that being married to only one spouse should be the standards by law concerning marriage. But this is against religions like Mormon and Islam, where having more than one wife is allowed. The state governments must make the decision once and for all and quit bowing to the demands of a minority (homosexuals) or they will be forced to allow a person to have more than one wife, or for that matter, a woman being allowed to have more than one husband in marriage. The state governments must learn they cannot have their political cake and eat it too. Read more »

Illegal Immigration Issue – Year Ending 2006

Illegal immigration issue continues as 2006 comes to a close this week’s ending.

On December 12th, the law enforcement agencies of the Bush administration finally made a significant raid and took into custody a few thousand illegal immigrants who are illegally employed in the United States – 20 years too late, but a victory for those against the proposed amnesty/guest worker program proposed by congressional members (who American voters have retained in office in the last election) and that President Bush is eagerly waiting to sign in order to continue his real reason for being soft on illegal immigration and kissing up to the Mexican government – the North American Union. Christmas From the Desk at the Lighthouse

Jesus is the Reason  Christmas is a popular time of the year, a special time of the year and a holy time of the year for others. Wikipedia provides a generic definition of Christmas in their cyberspace entry …

Christmas or Christmas Day is an annual holiday that marks the traditional birthdate of Jesus of Nazareth. Christmas combines the celebration of Jesus birth with various other traditions and customs, many of which were influenced by ancient winter festivals such as Yule and Saturnalia. Christmas traditions include the display of Nativity scenes and Christmas trees, the exchange of gifts and cards, and the arrival of Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. Popular Christmas themes include the promotion of goodwill, giving, compassion, and quality family time.

Christmas in Cyberspace

Readers CJ, and Diane S., both from Wisconsin and Quills, Iowa, passed on the following information concerning Christmas and Santa Claus….

NORAD Santa Tracker … According to the site:

For more than 50 years, NORAD and its predecessor, the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD) have [sic] tracked Santa. The tradition began after a Colorado Springs-based Sears Roebuck & Co. store advertisement for children to call Santa on a special “hotline” included an inadvertently misprinted telephone number. Instead of Santa, the phone number put kids through to the CONAD Commander-in-Chief’s operations “hotline.” The Director of Operations, Colonel Harry Shoup, received the first “Santa” call on Christmas Eve 1955.

Your kids can track Santa at the NORAD site this Christmas Eve. Read more »

Snippets and Congressional Update – December 16th 2006

Cybercast News Service – A federal immigration raid on meatpacking plants in six states last Tuesday was declared by the union of those plants “outrageous use of force” and violated the “immigrants” rights. The union spokes person forgot to add “illegal” to the word immigrant. Unions were unhappy because they lost revenue by collecting union dues. Maybe the unions should be fined by the government, as well as the employers for allowing illegal immigrants to be employed. Of course, that may be hard to do with the Democrats as majority in Congress, thanks to voters in many states re-electing or electing Democrats. Read more »

Light Side of Lighthouse – Santa’s Reindeer

I received this from several readers, the recent one coming from CJ, Wisconsin concerning the question – What gender are the eight tiny reindeer that pulls Santa’s sleigh?

According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, both female and male reindeers grow antlers in the summer of each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December. Female reindeer retain their antlers until after they give birth in the spring. Therefore, according to every historical rendition depicting Santa’s reindeer, every single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen, had to be a female. We should have known – only women would be able to drag a fat man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost.

Politicians and Lobbyists by Ken Renner

Ken Renner, Tennessee, guest writer, writes:

The more things change, the more things stay the same.  This article from David Sirota directly addresses why I find it difficult to have faith in either party.  While he labels himself a progressive, I find Sirota to be more of a populist who rages against both parties for the way they have sold out the interests of the American people.

There were those who said that no one could ever top former House Republican Leader Tom DeLay’s infamous “K Street Project” for the way it shook down the lobbyists in exchange for unprecedented influence over legislation, appropriations earmarks and other goodies on Capitol Hill.  Sirota is the first who has put his finger on how Democrats are going to “reform” the system by trying to one-up DeLay and immerse themselves in the same kind of shakedowns.

Want to know why drugs cost so much more in the U.S. than elsewhere?  Want to know why we can’t control our borders?  Want to know why we spend more per capita on health care than any nation in the world, while leaving so many people outside the system?  Want to know why we can’t control federal spending?  This is a pretty good place to start looking for answers.  As someone who likes finding the truth in unlikely places, I thought you’d appreciate this.

LPJ All-Time Christmas Film Favorites

It’s that time of year again. It is time to make some popcorn or holiday treats and watch those old and new Christmas films. Here is a list of my favorites:

It’s A Wonderful Life

It’s A Wonderful Life (1946) … This has to be the classic of classics and my all-time favorite. Frank Capra directed and Jimmy Stewart portrayed a fellow by the name of George Bailey. George is a desperate small-town family man at the beginning of the film and is considering suicide on Christmas Eve, until he gets a visit from an angel (Henry Travers) and discovers the real meaning of Christmas and the fact that everyone makes a difference in other folks’ lives. It is a bummer that this great film won no Oscars, although Capra and Stewart were nominated. Goes to show that the Oscars was off beat then as now. I know, it’s corny to some, but the story is great and Henry Tavers makes a delightful angel — and who doesn’t like angels? Read more »

Squirrelly Court Case in Chicago

Lady Justice

Those readers who have been around long enough may remember that the Lighthouse Patriot Journal (2001),  Lighthouse Journal (2000) aka Keifer’s Korner (1999) was a website with a series of web pages, all according to the subject material at hand: Kritter Korner, On Camera, On Stage, Weird Science, Time Capsule, Theologium, Bibliotheca, Spotlight, From the Desk, From the Foxhole, Fright Night (Halloween only page), Peninsula News, Our America and Court Jesters. The latter page concerned advocacy for judiciary reform. Now, with the advent of the Blog, the reader just chooses categories/subjects from a list and has access to the posted articles — “citizen journalism” as Mick Gregory calls it. Information organization is better, but some readers miss the photo/graphics, but don’t miss the time it took to load the pages. Read more »
