QUAERE VERITAS IN SALUM SUBJECTIO

Light Side of Lighthouse – Passing Thoughts on the Marriage Scene

HomeSweetHome In a Wise and Aldrich cartoon – Real Life Adventures comic strip in the newspaper, a man and a woman is depicted and the woman says to the man, her husband …

Look, stop your whining. I’ve got to pester you to do it, tell you how to do it, and then make sure you’ve done it right, you’ve got the easy part – all you have to do is do it.

It seems that when women get to the age of 40 and over (some earlier), suddenly males, especially their counterparts in the circumstance called marriage, become inept – well, at least to the female involved.

It isn’t because the woman MUST do all the above, it is just that she is compelled to BELIEVE she must. And then they will complain that there isn’t the same romance in their marriage as their once was. It appears that this syndrome occurs during the period when the woman goes through the “change” – but some men experience this syndrome with different affects as well. They call it in some cases, “crazy at 40″ – in which for some reason he feels he must return to the days of his youth and re-experience things (or find new experiences) he feels he may have missed before “life passes him by”. Whatever that is. It is fear of getting old, I guess. Unfortunately, both of these syndromes have been detrimental to an otherwise wonderful marriage.

Regardless, one wonders why some women get this way as they reach a certain age and beyond.

It is the perplexing circumstances of the war between the sexes and the perplexities of some marriages. And another passing thought – maybe this is why some men develop “selective hearing” at some point in their married life.

It is just another perplexing circumstance one encounters from time to time. And the perplexing thing is how did the female counterpart develop to be such an expert in everything, making no mistakes, et cetera?

The cartoon was snipped and passed on to me by Diane S., Wisconsin, Friend of LPJ. I have also placed this in the From My Desk category as a Random Thought – not just a humorous/satiric mention of a cartoon.
