Analysis of Martel Sobieskey’s Essay

Martel Sobieskey requested that his essay titled At War with Islam be published via email recently. There are points made in the gist of this essay, but I have separated certain points that I would like to repute/disagree:

America is at war with the religion of Islam. The key word here is religion. We American’s have a “mental block” that causes us to deny that we are fighting a religion. Take an atomic bomb write the letters R-E-L-I-G-I-O-N on it and we, gullible Americans, will welcome it as a religion. This statement is not entirely an exaggeration. Freedom of religion has become America’s “Achilles heel” stabbed through with the sword of Islam. From where does this “suicidal” freedom of religion “mental block” originate? It comes from our “knee jerk” compulsion to blindly believe that all prophets are extreme pacifists like Jesus. This blindness plagues the highest levels of our leadership, intelligence and academic communities. It is a national security disaster making it nearly impossible to protect ourselves. The killers are shouting Allah Akbar worldwide and carrying the Koran, yet we Americans refuse to identify Islam as the enemy.

Random Thoughts Concerning Primary Election 2008

Calvin Coolidge said:

Every voter ought not merely to vote, but to vote under the inspiration of a high purpose to serve the nation. It has been calculated that in most elections only about half of them entitled to vote actually exercise their franchise. What is worse, a considerable part of those who neglect to vote do it because of a curious assumption of superiority to this elementary duty of the citizen. They presume to be rather too good, too exclusive, to soil their hands with the work of politics …Popular government is facing one of the difficult phases of the perpetual trial to which it always has been and always will be subjected. …

That statement was made back before FDR was President and introduced the concept of social programs, programs designed to socially engineer society. Programs that are overpriced compared to what they actually do for the people of our nation. Programs that give more power over our personal lives. Programs that are part of what is called income redistribution.
