SITREP – America, George Soros, and the Shadow Party

Nw1sorosGeorgeBanker Donald Farr submitted this information and a comprehensive essay concerning a rich and powerful man whose agenda is to weaken America and change its course in history – with the help of the Shadow Party – George Soros IS responsible for the Shadow Party existing and is steering events to his liking.

What is the Shadow Party? Who is George Soros?

Wikipedia

George Soros born August 12, 1930, Budapest, Hungary, is a Hungarian-born American financial speculator, stock investor, philanthropist, and political activist. Currently, he is the chairman of Soros Fund Management and the Open Society Institute and is also a former member of the Board of Directors of the Council on Foreign Relations. According to his website, Soros claims his support for the Solidarity labour movement in Poland, as well as the Czechoslovak human rights organization Charter 77, contributed to ending Soviet Union political dominance in those countries. His funding and organization of Georgia’s Rose Revolution was considered by Russian and Western observers to have been crucial to its success, although Soros said his role has been “greatly exaggerated”. In the United States, he is known for having donated large sums of money in a failed effort to defeat President George W. Bush’s bid for re-election in 2004. On BookTV, November 12, 2007, he said that he supports Barack Obama for the Democratic candidate in the 2008 election, but says that John Edwards, Hillary Clinton, or Joe Biden are all fine candidates, as well.
Soros is famously known for “
breaking the Bank of England” on Black Wednesday in 1992. With an estimated current net worth of around $8.5 billion, he is ranked by Forbes as the 80th-richest person in the world. …
George Soros is the son of Esperanto writer Teodoro Schwartz. Teodoro (also known as Tivadar) was a Hungarian Jew, who was a prisoner of war during and after World War I and eventually escaped from
Russia to rejoin his family in Budapest. The family changed its name in 1936 from Schwartz to Soros, in response to growing anti-semitism with the rise of Fascism. … His son George was taught to speak Esperanto from birth and thus is one of the rare native Esperanto speakers. George Soros later said that he “grew up in a Jewish home,” and that his parents were “cautious with their religious roots.” However, Soros’s father was proud of his Jewish roots … George Soros had been married and divorced twice, to Annaliese Witschak and to Susan Weber Soros. He has five children … His elder brother Paul Soros is an engineer, and is a well-known philanthropist, investor, and New York socialite.
Soros was thirteen years old when Nazi
Germany took military control over its wavering ally Hungary (March 19, 1944), and started exterminating Hungarian Jews in the Holocaust. Soros worked briefly for the Jewish Council, which had been established by the Nazi, to deliver messages to Jewish lawyers being called for deportation. Soros claims he was not aware of the consequence of the messages. To avoid his son being apprehended by the Nazis, his father had Soros spend the summer of 1944 living with a non-Jewish Ministry of Agriculture employee, posing as his godson. In the following year, Soros survived the battle of Budapest, as Soviet and Nazi forces fought house-to-house through the city. Soros first traded currencies during the Hungarian hyperinflation of 1945-1946. In 1946, Soros escaped the Soviet occupation by participating in an Esperanto youth congress in the West. Soros emigrated to England in 1947 and graduated from the London School of Economics in 1952. … He eventually secured an entry-level position with London merchant bank Singer & Friedlander. …
George Soros’s most successful partners at Quantum Fund have been Jim Rogers, Victor Neiderhoffer and Stanley Druckenmiller, all of who are famous traders in their own rights. …
Soros has been active as a philanthropist since the 1970s, when he began providing funds to help black students attend the University of
Cape Town in apartheid South Africa, and began funding dissident movements behind the iron curtain. … He has promoted non-violent efforts to increase democracy in many countries. … Other notable projects have included aid to scientists and universities throughout Central and Eastern Europe, help to civilians during the siege of Sarajevo, worldwide efforts to repeal drug prohibition laws, and Transparency International. …
Soros has a keen interest in philosophy, and his philosophical outlook is largely influenced by Karl Popper, under whom he studied at the London School of Economics. … Some critics argue that Soros’ static political beliefs appear to conflict with the critical rationalism espoused by Popper, though Soros argues that these beliefs were arrived at through such rationalism. Soros does not consider himself religious, and has stated that he does not believe in God. …
Soros blames many of the world’s problems on the failures inherent in what he characterizes as market fundamentalism. His opposition to many aspects of globalization has made him a controversial figure. Victor Niederhoffer said of Soros: “Most of all, George believed in a mixed economy, one with a strong central international government to correct for the excesses of self-interest.” …
At a Jewish forum in
New York City, Soros partially attributed a recent resurgence of anti-Semitism to the policies of Israel and the United States, and to successful Jews such as himself:
“There is a resurgence of anti-Semitism in
Europe. The policies of the Bush administration and the Sharon administration contribute to that. It’s not specifically anti-Semitism, but it does manifest itself in anti-Semitism as well. I’m critical of these policies … If we change that direction, than anti-Semitism also will diminish. I can’t see how one could confront it directly … I’m also very concerned about my own role because the new anti-Semitism holds that Jews rule the world … As an unintended consequence of my actions … I also contribute to that image.”[i]
In a subsequent article for the
New York Review of Books, Soros emphasized that
“I do not subscribe to the myths propagated by enemies of
Israel and I am not blaming Jews for anti-Semitism. Anti-Semitism predates the birth of Israel. Neither Israel’s policies nor the critics of those policies should be held responsible for anti-Semitism. At the same time, I do believe that attitudes toward Israel are influenced by Israel’s policies, and attitudes toward the Jewish community are influenced by the pro-Israel lobby’s success in suppressing divergent views.[ii]
In an interview with The
Washington Post on November 11, 2003, Soros said that removing President George W. Bush from office was the “central focus of my life” and “a matter of life and death.” … Soros gave $3 million to the Center for American Progress, committed $5 million to MoveOn, while he and his friend Peter Lewis each gave America Coming Together $10 million. (All were groups worked to support Democrats in the 2004 election). On September 28, 2004 he dedicated more money to the campaign and kicked off his own multi-state tour with a speech … The online transcript to this speech received many hits after Dick Cheney accidentally referred to FactCheck.org as “factcheck.com” in the Vice Presidential debate, causing the owner of that domain to redirect all traffic to Soros’s site. … After Bush’s reelection in 2004, Soros and other wealthy liberal political donors backed a new political fundraising group called Democracy Alliance which aims to support the goals of the U.S. Democratic Party. Soros has been criticized for his large donations, as he also pushed for the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002, which was intended to ban “soft money” contributions to federal election campaigns. Soros has responded that his donations to unaffiliated organizations do not raise the same corruption issues as donations directly to the candidates or political parties.[iii] Harken Energy, a firm partly owned by Soros, did business with George W. Bush in 1986 by buying his oil company, Spectrum 7. His most recent book, The Age of Fallibility: Consequences of The War on Terror, was published in June 2006.
Directly and through his organization Open Society Institute (OSI), he has funded various gun control organizations[iv], such as the Tides Foundation, the HELP Network and SAFE
Colorado. He and seven friends founded their own political committees – Campaign for a Progressive Future[v] – and spent $2 million on political activities in 2000, including providing the prime financial backing for the Million Mom March[vi]. OSI has supported UN efforts to create international gun control regulations and has singled out the United States for failing to go along with other countries on national gun control measures. …
In an editorial in September 2007, Investors Business Daily criticized Soros for funding organizations such as MoveOn.org and has claimed that Soros is not transparent in the way he gives away his money. The newspaper said: “The irony here is that Soros claims to be an advocate of an ‘open society.’ His OSI does just the legal minimum to disclose its activities. The public shouldn’t have to wait until an annual report is out before the light is flipped on about the Open Society’s political action.” …
In April 2008, Soros hosted an event in his apartment that had guests such as David Brock of the self-described watchdog group Media Matters, through a group called The Fund for
America and Progressive Media, whose key backer, according to politico.com, is Soros. Commentator Bill O’Reilly, who on numerous occasions has accused Soros of secretly backing what O’Reilly feels are “far-left” political causes, repeated Soros “wants to buy America” after learning about the event.

At The Cagle Post, Bill Steigerwald discusses David Horowitz’s Illuminating the Shadow Party [July 26th 2006] …

The Shadow Party – the network of big money, ex-Clinton political operatives, unions and left-wing grass-roots organizations that now essentially controls the Democrat Party – was not discovered or named by David Horowitz and Richard Poe. …
The Shadow Party is a George Soros conglomerate. George Soros, a billionaire, has engineered campaign finance reform, by pouring tens of millions of dollars – and getting others to do it too – into the campaign finance reform movement. What this did was it limited the ability of the political parties to raise money. As soon as the campaign finance laws came into place, they had a loophole – and naturally they would, because Soros was behind this – for private organizations like MoveOn.org, called 527s, that could collect money. Soros managed to put together a coalition, which we call the Shadow Party, which accounted for about $300 million in the Democratic campaign. Actually, it was much more than that. … But through another organization they have, Americans Coming Together, they also put together the ground war. ACT was composed of big government unions, like SEIU, and teacher unions. They were able to produce 100,000 campaign workers and huge amounts of money to knock on doors and get out the vote. Because Soros and the group he put together control both the ground war and the air war of Democratic campaigns, that means that every elected Democratic official has got to pay attention to what they say. …

McCain, in his political fence jumping became a part of George Soros’ Shadow Party, in reality a shadowy form of government within the government.

Other involvements were Foley and the FBI matters where Soros-funded groups were accused of declaring war against the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The whole things sounds preposterous, linking all three present candidates for president – one of them not affiliated with the Democratic Party, and Senator McCain’s previous sell outs to the conservative and centrist voters has been devastating, almost as much as GW Bush’s presidency concerning the GOP.

And isn’t that the oddity of American politics – two Democratic candidates opposing each other with the Soros money and funded organizations pulling on both strings?

With the consensus of Senator Obama’s win in the Democratic political battle, it is an indication that the Clinton’s have won disfavor and Senator Obama, a fresh new face and voice, seems to be the favorite of Soros and his organizations. With the talk of super delegates and this revelation, one wonders how much the American voter has to say in this era of the election process. As Poe states:

The Shadow Party is always changing. New groups form and old ones dissolve. For instance, America Coming Together – which raised $135 million for Democrat get-out-the-vote drives in 2004 – has been mothballed, at least for now. The most active Shadow Party groups today are probably the Center for American Progress, America Votes, Democracy Alliance, the New Democrat Network, the New Politics Institute, ACORN, and, of course, MoveOn.org. He [Soros] uses it to push the Party leftward. He is systematically purging the Party of moderates and packing it with radicals. …

After all, Soros became a billionaire because of his knack of take over operations in business – so why not politics and eventually a government? Poe continues …

Funding ordinary candidates, be they Democrats or Republicans, would be politics as usual. Funding radical candidates who seek America’s destruction is not. Money is a tool. It can be used for good or evil.[vii] The Shadow Party is using it for evil. Judge for yourself. In his new book The Age of Fallibility, Soros writes, “The main obstacle to a stable and just world order is the United States.” He announced in 2003 that it is necessary to “puncture the bubble of American supremacy.” Soros is working systematically to achieve that goal.[viii] On the economic front, he is shorting the dollar in global currency markets, trying to force a devaluation. At the same time, Soros is orchestrating a nationwide movement to encourage mass immigration into the United States, and to mandate the provision of free social services to illegal immigrants. These measures alone have the potential to bankrupt the nation. However if they fail, Soros has another program that will certainly finish the job. A long-time Soros operative named Jeffrey Sachs has been placed in charge of the United Nations Millennium Project – a global war on poverty designed to transfer wealth from rich countries to poor ones.[ix] Sachs is currently demanding that American taxpayers turn over $140 billion per year to his global welfare bureaucracy.[x] On the political front, Soros has poured massive funding into such groups as the ACLU[xi] … Mr. Soros advocates deep structural change in our system of government. In April 2005, Yale Law School hosted an even called, “The Constitution in 2020”, whose stated goal was to formulate “a progressive vision of what the Constitution ought to be.”[xii] … He appears to have a special animus against the Bill of Rights. Take freedom of worship, for instance. Soros seems to favor some sort of religious apartheid, with fundamentalist Christians banished to a socio-political Bantusan. … Then there’s the Second Amendment. Soros has provided massive funding to anti-gun groups and anti-gun litigators. The unprecedented assault on gun rights during the 1990s was largely bankrolled by Soros. … Most Americans do not realize that the McCain-Feingold Act of 2002 was a Trojan Horse. Its stated purpose was to reform campaign finance law. It actual effect is to regulate political speech. McCain-Feingold was a Shadow Party initiative. Soros and a group of leftwing foundations spent over $140 million to get it passed. … Sooner or later, it will be enforced, to the full extent its creator envisioned. …McCain has a long history of collusion with the Shadow Party. During the 2000 presidential campaign, Soros sponsored two so-called “Shadow Conventions,” held at the same time and in the same cities as the Republican and Democratic Conventions, in Philadelphia and Los Angeles respectively. Their purpose was to promote campaign fiancé reform. John McCain gave the keynote speech at the Philadelphia “Soros Convention” … McCain’s service to the Shadow Party brought him financial benefits. In 2001, McCain founded the Reform Institute for Campaign and Election Issues. The Institute’s major funders were mostly leftwing foundations. Prominent among them was George Soros’ Open Society Institute. … Democrats have traditionally relied on large, soft-money donations from unions, while Republicans relied more on small, “hard-money” donations from mom-and-pop donors. When McCain-Feingold outlawed soft-money donations to the parties, Republicans were not unduly hampered, but Democrats flew into a panic. They faced the real possibility of bankruptcy. Enter George Soros. After forcing the Democrats into a fiscal crisis, he then offered to rescue them.[xiii] He set up a network of non-profit, “issue-advocacy” groups – the Shadow Party – and invited all the big Democrat donors to contribute to his network. Thus they could still contribute to the Democrat cause, but without giving directly to the Party. The Party became dependent on Soros to raise campaign contributions which the law now forbade the Party itself to raise. … History teaches that a fanatical minority can prevail over a moderate majority. The Bolsheviks proved that in 1917. … This is a time for vigilance, not complacency. …the Shadow Party funds a number of groups which specialize in street action. Last March, about a half million protestors brought Los Angeles to a standstill, calling for open borders and free immigration. Some burned American flags and fought with police. … The whole extravaganza was a Shadow Party operation. Virtually every sponsor was a Soros-funded group – at least eight organizations – including ACORN, La Raza, MALDEF and others. One of the organizers, the Center for Community Change, has received $5.2 million from Soros’s Open Society Institute. …
Phase one is to impeach President Bush for allegedly deceiving the nation into war. We call this phase Watergate II. Phase Two is to force a
U.S. withdrawal from Iraq and to cut off aid to the Iraqi Republic, just as Democrats cut off aid to South Vietnam after Nixon resigned. We call this phase Vietnam II. Phase Three is velvet revolution. This is a term used in Eastern Europe to describe the sort of bloodless coup for which Soros is well-known in that part of the world. He has used these methods to topple regimes in many countries, such as Yugoslavia, Ukraine and the Republic of Georgia. Soros’ velvet revolutions always follow the same pattern. The rebels wait for an election, then precipitate a crisis by charging voter fraud. We believe the Shadow Party may attempt something similar in the USA. If they fail to win legitimately in 2008, they will likely cry voter fraud, fomenting an electoral crisis similar to the Bush-Gore deadlock of 2000. … More likely, they will press for international arbitration this time, possibly under the auspices of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. … In normal times, Americans would never accept foreign arbitration of an election, but a destabilized America, demoralized by military defeat, discouraged by the fall of a president, and alarmed by orchestrated unrest in the streets, might just go along with any plan that promised to restore order. The 2004 election almost seemed like a dress rehearsal for such a maneuver … If the Democrats win, we can rest assured that Soros and Hillary will be pulling the strings behind the scenes, no matter which figurehead they choose to sit on the throne. In the short time left before 2008, we need to learn everything we can about the Shadow Party and open the eyes of as many Americans as possible to its plans.

Sound like a Sci-Fi action thriller coming soon to a neighborhood theater? Think again. Remember, the socialist-communist element has been working its way into the American framework since the 1930s – they are patient, despite the appearance otherwise.

*GUIDE TO THE GEORGE SOROS NETWORK*
George Soros is one of the most powerful men on earth. A New York hedge
fund manager, he has amassed a personal fortune estimated at about $7.2
billion. His management company controls billions more in investor
assets. Since 1979, his foundation network — whose flagship is the
_Open Society Institute_
<
http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/funderprofile.asp?fndid=5181&category=79>
(OSI) — has dispensed an estimated $5 billion to a multitude of
organizations whose objectives are consistent with those of Soros. (The
President of OSI and the Soros Foundation Network is Aryeh Neier, who, as Director of the socialist League for Industrial Democracy, personally created the radical group _Students for a Democratic Society_ <
http://www.discoverthenetwork.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6723> in 1959.) With assets of $859 million as of 2005, OSI alone donates scores of millions of dollars annually to these various groups, whose major agendas can be summarized as follows:
    * promoting the view that America is institutionally an oppressive
      nation
    * promoting the election of leftist political candidates throughout
      the United States
    * opposing virtually all post-9/11 national security measures
enacted by U.S. government, particularly the Patriot Act
    * depicting American military actions as unjust, unwarranted, and
      immoral
    * promoting open borders, mass immigration, and a watering down of current immigration laws
    * promoting a dramatic expansion of social welfare programs funded
      by ever-escalating taxes
    * promoting social welfare benefits and amnesty for illegal aliens
    * defending suspected anti-American terrorists and their abetters
    * financing the recruitment and training of future activist leaders
      of the political Left
    * advocating America’s unilateral disarmament and/or a steep
      reduction in its military spending
    * opposing the death penalty in all circumstances
    * promoting socialized medicine in the United States
    * promoting the tenets of radical environmentalism, whose ultimate
goal, as writer Michael Berliner has _explained,_
      <
http://frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=13071> is
“not clean air and clean water, [but] rather … the demolition of
      technological/ industrial civilization”
    * bringing American foreign policy under the control of the United
      Nations

   * promoting racial and ethnic preferences in academia and the
      business world alike

In one of his most significant and effective efforts to shape the
American political landscape, Soros was the prime mover in the creation
of the so-called “Shadow Democratic Party,” or “_Shadow Party_
<

This term refers to a nationwide network of more than five-dozen unions, non-profit activist groups, and think tanks whose agendas are ideologically to the left, and which are engaged in campaigning for the Democrats. This network’s activities include fundraising, get-out-the-vote drives, political advertising, opposition research, and media manipulation.

the task of building a 21st-century version of the Left’s traditional

___According to Richard Poe_
<
http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/ReadArticle.asp?ID=24073>,
co-author (with David Horowitz) of the 2006 book /The Shadow Party/:
“The Shadow Party is the real power driving the Democrat machine.  It is
a network of radicals dedicated to transforming our constitutional
republic into a socialist hive. The leader of these radicals is …
*/George Soros. He has essentially privatized the Democratic Party,
bringing it under his personal control./* The Shadow Party is the
instrument through which he exerts that control. … It works by
siphoning off hundreds of millions of dollars in campaign contributions
that would have gone to the Democratic Party in normal times, and
putting those contributions at the personal disposal of Mr. Soros. He
then uses that money to buy influence and loyalty where he sees fit. In
2003, Soros set up a network of privately-owned groups which acts as a
shadow or mirror image of the Party. It performs all the functions we
would normally expect the real Democratic Party to perform, such as
shaping the Party platform, fielding candidates, running campaigns, and
so forth.  However, it performs these functions under the private
supervision of Mr. Soros and his associates. The Shadow Party derives
its power from its ability to raise huge sums of money.  By controlling
the Democrat purse strings, the Shadow Party can make or break any
Democrat candidate by deciding whether or not to fund him. During the
2004 election cycle, the Shadow Party raised more than $300 million for
Democrat candidates, prompting one of its operatives, MoveOn PAC
director _Eli Pariser_

<

2006, “the Bush administration has been able to improve on the
techniques used by the Nazi and Communist propaganda machines by drawing
on the innovations of the advertising and marketing industries.” Soros
elaborated on this theme at the January 2007 World Economic Forum in
Davos, Switzerland, where he _told_

reporters: “America needs to . . . go through a certain de-Nazification
process.”
Soros has been a staunch supporter of Hillary Clinton, who, in turn, has
long admired Soros and shares many of his agendas. At a 2004 “Take Back
America” conference in Washington, DC, Mrs. Clinton introduced Soros
with these words:
“Now, among the many people who have stood up and said, ‘I cannot sit by
and let this happen to the country I love,’ is George Soros, and I have
known George Soros for a long time now, and I first came across his work
in the former Soviet Union, in Eastern Europe, when I was privileged to
travel there, both on my own and with my husband on behalf of our
country. …  [W]e need people like George Soros, who is fearless, and
willing to step up when it counts.” (Cited in David Horowitz and Richard
Poe, /The Shadow Party/, p. 53)
In December of 2006, Soros met with Democratic presidential hopeful
Barack Obama in his (Soros’) New York office. Soros had previously
hosted a fund-raiser for Obama during the latter’s 2004 campaign for the
Senate. On January 16, 2007, Obama announced the creation of a
presidential exploratory committee, and within hours Soros sent the
senator a contribution of $2,100, the maximum amount allowable under
campaign finance laws. Later that week the New York /Daily News
/_reported _
<
http://www.nydailynews.com/01-21-2007/news/story/490539p-413185c.html>that
Soros would back Obama over Senator Hillary Clinton, whom he had
supported in the past. Soros’ announcement was seen as a repudiation of
Clinton’s presidential aspirations, though Soros said he would support
the New York senator were she to win the Democratic nomination.

Mind-boggling.

[i] In his analysis, Soros has forgotten the factor of the general Arab views, specifically Islamic extremists, who literally believe in the extermination of Jews (at least removed from their original homeland) and erasing Israel off of the global map.

[ii] Israel’s “policies” have been primarily to survive among Arab states who wish to destroy the nation, despite constant table talks and even giving in to a portion of the demands that may promote peace. US administration policies in the past have been to discourage Israel from attacking their enemies, despite their enemies’ attacks upon them. For example, no retaliation against Saddam’s WMDs being fired into Israel, letting the coalition handles the situation during the Persian Gulf War.

[iii] In other words, he indirectly purchases campaigns – candidates. What’s truly is the difference?

[iv] As a person who lived under the umbrella of Nazi terror, one would think he would not advocate government taking away the citizens firearms, which is part of the plan of a tyrant government.

[v] “Progressive” meaning Progressive Democratic Socialism, an American version of socialism, not realizing that socialism is Marxism no matter what name or category is invented.

[vi] An example of “following the money” concept.

[vii] You might say like firearms – depending who is bearing them.

[viii] And Village Idiots and Useful Idiots are helping him.

[ix] This should be familiar with US social programs that use income redistribution and the unfair income tax system, where soon 50% of Americans may be paying either little taxes or no taxes, while everyone else will foot the difference. This no longer is a problem for the wealthy, it has become a step towards the death knell of the middle class. Oh, the web we allow to be woven.

[x] The United Nations is not just an inadequate world organization, but it is fast becoming a very dangerous one.

[xi] Now you know why they are so successful at what they do – oppression in the name of “protecting liberties and civil rights”. You know, like prisoners of war at Guantanamo.

[xii] “Progressive”, once again, the operative word for socialism/Marxism.

[xiii] Once again, look at Soros’ partial means of gaining his fortune – take overs.

  1. Mind-boggling, indeed.

This has got to be the biggest load of bogus conspiratorial hokum I’ve read since I last had a worthless moment to review the arguments of the 9/11 “truthers” who believe that the World Trade Center disaster was an “inside job” plotted by the Bush administration. As one wag noted recently, the most obvious evidence that the Bush administration had nothing to do with the 9/11 disaster was that it worked.

Not so much with this mish-mass of speculation, guilt-by-association and pure invention. But what else would you expect from the P.T. Barnum of today’s right, David Horowitz, one of the biggest charlatans and hucksters who ever invented “Islamofascism Awareness Week” to raise money for his own personal foundation?

Son of two longtime Communist Party members and once an avowed Marxist, Horowitz is like the reformed smoker everyone hates who goes waaaay overboard the other direction. He has consistently supported the extreme neoconservative wing of the GOP and drawn criticism for being anti-Muslim, accusing American Muslims of being jihadists and has even been accused of being anti-black for some of his more extreme views.

But the biggest Horowitz schtick has been making charges of liberal bias against academia. Time and again, his sensational charges have been proven to be reckless, unsupported and false. But yet Horowitz perseveres.

Even Wikipedia can hardly restrain itself with this nut job.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Horowitz_(conservative_writer)

In 2004, he launched the “Discover the Networks” group upon which much of the above warmed-over garbage is based. At first he tried to prove that Democrats were either terrorists or supported terrorists. When that went over like a lead balloon, he next worked hard to prove that there was some kind of shadowy organization pulling the strings over the American left — defined as anyone further to the left than him, which includes almost anyone sane — and came up with his Shadow Party baloney.

Gee, Democrats support Democratic causes? Shocking! I’m appalled!

What about this incredible hidden conspiracy? American businesses, often led by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and its sleeper cells embedded into the very fabric of local American communities (ie. local Chambers of Commerce) are conspiring to support Republican causes, creating an evil alliance of business-oriented organizations threatening to take over the American government. OK, what I just told you in Horowitz-like scaaaaaaary terms, is that business organizations tend to support Republicans. I know you are as shocked as I am.

Obviously Farr’s email draws heavily on this “Discover the Networks” conspiratorial nonsense as almost each of the links go back to its allegeged “evidence.”

I think your first impression was right, Keith. If it seems “preposterous,” it probably is. But then again, that’s Horowitz’s stock in trade.

  4. Ken R:
What is mind boggling is your constant defense of an organization that has lost its way, and this does not exclude the opposing political party. And another phenomenon is that you claim to be a centrist, yet write as if you are an indoctrinated Dem. How disappointing. This article reveals what organizations like MoveOn is really about.
I am glad to find someone who thinks the 9/11 Conspiracy theory is a waste of time and quite perplexing that anyone would believe such drivel. I ran across a site that actually believes Arabs (fanatic extremists) were not involved in attacking the US in New York and Pentagon (the latter people often overlook)!
It breaks my heart to think that people would actually do what they accuse. It would mean, because GW Bush was in a classroom with children (perfect alibi) that there would be Americans who would commit such a dastardly crime? Can people think that this could happen other than in some fantasy film?
David Horowitz has revealed entirely his background, including siding with the Black Power movement, et cetera. A third generation Democrat Party person, like me, who reformed after waking up to the reality of what was happening within that particular party (read Shadow Party more thoroughly because Horowitz is not the only one who has investigated and Poe is a reputable source). And your words are certainly coming from the far-left where this source all comes from and to believe that George Soros hasn’t had the DNC by the testicles, as well as certain members of the Republican Party (McCain) is quite naive.

Comment by Keith Lehman | May 1, 2008

  5. Horowitz is not off mark. And because of your blind loyalty to an American political party, you fail to see any of this. Why just blast and make snide remarks about Horowitz – Why not Poe, Me, and other people who honestly worked at researching this phenomenon?
He has sided with Israel’s plight while others expressed anti-Semitism and took the side of the Arabs. He has revealed the inner workings of American communist parties, yes, from his own experience, as well as the Black Panthers.
Ronald Reagan stated that he didn’t leave the Democratic Party, they left him.
The North American Union plan is not supposed to exist either.
Mr. Farr’s email drew heavily on Discover the Networks – but my links are more than that. Notice you used the world “probably” – you are quick to poo-poo something with no research involving your rebuttal because your precious Democratic Party couldn’t possibly be part of any of this.
Follow the money. Follow the power. Look at the truth via facts at hand. Look at the movement that has infiltrated this nation beginning in the 1930s. McCarthy wasn’t as wacky as people make him to be. Enter the 1960s, students at universities ripe for social revolution – the sordid history of political entities of the United States – and then scrutinize the anti-corporation rhetoric of the Marxist-inspired left, Democratic Party, who constantly uses class rhetoric in a nation that is supposed to be “classless” – then return armed with sources that prove this false.

Comment by Keith Lehman | May 1, 2008

  6. You are asking me to provide sources to prove a negative? Something didn’t happen — and here’s what made it not happen and how it didn’t happen? And disprove a far-fetched conspiracy theory? For my next trick, perhaps I can disprove the theory that Jimmy Hoffa killed Kennedy.

Maybe I should start with Will Rogers, who famously said, “I don’t belong to any organized political party; I’m a Democrat.” Having labored in those vineyards many years ago, I can attest to his truth. Organizing Democrats is like herding cats. And yet George Soros is some malevolent puppet-master who pulls the strings to control the Democratic Party? Give me a break. I think the “truthers” make more convincing arguments — and they are idiots.

Oddly, while you accuse me of blind loyalty to Democrats, being far left and “indoctrinated,” there was not a single word in my post defending the Democratic Party. I merely noted that Democrats tend to support Democratic causes, just as Republicans tend to support Republican causes. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out, but it takes David Horowitz to make it a vast, evil conspiracy.

It would be naive to deny Soros has influence through both his money and ideas. Influence-peddling isn’t new. Soros is to the left what folks like Richard Mellon Scaife, who bankrolled most of the Whitewater and bimbo investigations during the Clinton administration, and Las Vegas gambling kingpin Richard Adelson, the major funder of Freedom’s Watch, are to the right. Of course, there are even those who would argue that the entire policy-making apparatus of the Republican Party was turned over to well-heeled federal lobbyists through the infamous “K Street Project” for the past 10-12 years, but we’ll save that discussion for another day.

In fact, now that I think about it, perhaps the Clinton impeachment was really just a battle between Scaife and Soros with every single American citizen being played as a puppet and having his strings pulled by these titans. With Scaife bankrolling the anti-Clinton forces, Soros helped found MoveOn.org to push America to “move on” past the scandal. In retrospect, maybe it would have been better if both of them had spent their entire fortune on these major issues so that the rest of us would finally be free to deal with the little stuff, like our economy, immigration, foreign policy, energy independence and the other nagging unsolved trivialities of our civic life.

It’s not for me to make Horowitz look like a fool. He is perfectly capable of doing that himself and has been doing an excellent job of it for years.

To me, it is not parties that are important, it is ideas. While we continue to play the Horowitz game of fear, division and accusing fellow Americans of various brands of conspiracy, some of us have noticed that things aren’t going well for America lately. I think people like Horowitz are a big part of the problem. I’m not playing his game anymore. That emperor has shown he’s not wearing clothes and it’s about time people start pointing it out.

  7. Ken:
No, I am telling you to provide sources that would prove this to be false. I spent a lot time on this and already had a dossier file on George Soros when Don Farr sent this information. I then updated certain parts, wrote my piece first and then attached D. Farr’s submittal.
People are saying the same thing about the North American Union – at least I am not biased. I don’t care which political party it is when something doesn’t smell right in the kitchen.
Maybe I should start with your naivety. You give ME a break. If there is a conspiracy in the works or corruption in the Republican Party – you are on it. Yet, there are more Democratic incidents of such things. For me, I prefer an independent – unfortunately they cannot match the funds that the other two parties.
You defended the DNC when you mocked the George Soros connection as false and “far-fetched”. Prove it. Horowitz did his research – where is yours? Poe came up with the same thing.
Soros is using his influence/money to tailor the world the way he thinks it should be. Have you ever read his comments concerning America itself?
Have you followed the money/funding of the organizations described above, and by the way, it is highly possible that McCain is aware of all of this as well – so the GOP isn’t off the hook.
You speak of the GOP being hooked up with the high-power corporate world, but fail to see the statistic that the richest group of people in Congress belong to the DNC – and they get enormous amounts from the corporate world as well. So if getting donations from corporations and business entities is evil – does that mean only if the DNC isn’t doing it? You see this is part of the mind set of the political left (socialist political entity with communist influence in the past), that entity which has taken the DNC over and has been corrupting the GOP as well.
Prove your rebuttal and I am not going to favor you with snide remarks about Clinton (who IS tied in with Soros) and the other nonsense in the last paragraph. And don’t talk about the fear factor – the DNC wrote the book. Centrist my posterior. People should be afraid, afraid of this continued destruction of America from within. People who want to strip away tradition, heritage and the principals of which this country was founded – and they use the tactics straight from the Marxist Manifestor rule book. I refuse to be a useful idiot. I refuse to be part of the plan of the Village People. I refuse to give up what made this nation great in the first place. I refuse to surrender to those who wouldn’t state the truth if their life depended upon it. Prove your rebuttal.
I didn’t leave the Democratic and Republican parties – they left me. I want candidates that the people vote for not “super” delegates. I want to see candidates allowed to run that are not part of the main political clubs. If people want reformation within political parties, then American society must reform itself and change the way and the reason why they vote. I want individuals elected to office and run it like an individual – not some twisted political party platform.
And I want something more than just rhetoric to disclaim what was written here.
    Enuff said.

  8. Once again, it is not possible to “prove” or “disprove” this kind of conspiracy theory. If there were facts and sources out there to prove or disprove this kind of inneuendo, guilt-by-association and implication, by definition it wouldn’t be a conspiracy.

By nature, conspiracies are done under the cover of darkness, hidden from prying eyes. It’s why old Tailgunner Joe had such a long, tragic run, damaging so many reputations with his smear tactics. Sure, like the blind hog who occasionally finds a chestnut, McCarthy occasionally found a real communist but at what cost to the reputations, livlihoods and respect of the patriotic Americans caught up in his sleazy web of reckless accusation and character assassination? McCarthy constantly claimed conspiracies and it was impossible to disprove him because they were conspiracies. By definition, there is no evidence to disprove a conspiracy. SHHHH. It’s a secret.

But let’s give Horowitz & the rest of his tin foil hat bunch the benefit of the doubt. Let’s assume for the sake of argument that all these “networks” and “associations” are absolutely correct. What does it prove? If proof is the standard of Horowitz “uncovering” this conspiracy, what has he proven beside that Democrats hang out with Democrats and support Democratic causes?

Nothing, until they throw in the innuendo. He shows people associate with each other, then makes the great leap to say this shows Soros’ associates “essentially control the Democrat Party.” No proof? No, just an assertion.

“Because Soros and the group he put together control both the ground war and the air war of Democratic campaigns, that means that every elected Democratic official has got to pay attention to what they say.” No evidence of control, mind you, he just shows people of like minds associate with each other. Then the big leap — with no associated proof — that he has control and forces his views on others.

“He [Soros] uses it to push the Party leftward. He is systematically purging the Party of moderates and packing it with radicals.” Not one scintilla of evidence of any purges, not one example of Soros putting radicals in charge of anything, just an assertion with no proof whatsoever.

Let’s take a few more of these conspiratorial fantasies, all unproven, all without any evidence whatsoever and all designed to sow fear and division among the gullible. Quoting from the articles above:

    * Soros is orchestrating a nationwide movement to encourage mass immigration into the United States, and to mandate the provision of free social services to illegal immigrants.
    * He appears to have a special animus against the Bill of Rights. Take freedom of worship, for instance. Soros seems to favor some sort of religious apartheid, with fundamentalist Christians banished to a socio-political Bantustans.
    * If the Democrats win, we can rest assured that Soros and Hillary will be pulling the strings behind the scenes, no matter which figurehead they choose to sit on the throne.

And then there is the long list of alleged “aims” of this vast Soros network contained in Farr’s email, suffused of course with the ideological perspective of whoever wrote it. I actually had to laugh at a few of them.

“Opposing virtually all post-9/11 national security measures enacted by U.S. government, particularly the Patriot Act.” I thought that it was the Bush administration that fought adoption of the security-related recommendations of the 9/11 Commission. In fact, voting FOR the 9/11 Commission’s recommendations was one of the votes cited by the National Review when it called Sen. Obama the nation’s most liberal senator. So if being FOR America’s security makes you a liberal according to NAtional Review, does that make Soros a Republican? These conspiracies get pretty confusing sometimes.

Here’s another: According to the email, Soros is “promoting socialized medicine in the United States.” Granted we are debating health care reform in this nation in light of the fact that our current system costs more per capita, covers a small percentage of the population and has some of the worst outcomes of any industrialized nation, but I have yet to hear anyone calling for “socialized medicine.” This is one of those canards used time and again to scare people.

I could go on and one. And once again, Keith, I am not defending Democrats or Republicans. This hokum would be just as silly coming from the left as the right. This kind of conspiratorial nonsense is designed to prey on the uneducated, those who don’t pay attention and those whose ideological beliefs stand in the way of critical thinking and good sense.

  9. Ken:
There you go again – I present something and suddenly I am “uneducated”.
Soros own words, actions and participation in certain organizations is part of the proof.
I am still waiting for something other than opinion and blind loyalty.
I was “silly” for pointing out the Fifth Element in America.
These are points I do not want to ever say “I told you so”.

  10. I recently featured Fareed Zakaria’s interview of Soros is an interesting discussion of how bubbles form out of misconceptions and how reality sets in and bursts and crashes bubbles.

Unlike other critics like Peter Schiff and Jim Rogers, Soros favors government intervention to regulate markets since he doesn’t believe in the “self-correction to equilibrium” notion of markets.

Soros’ skeptical approach to human prediction of markets is similar to Nassim Taleb’s ideas that history is inherently a fallacy and any prediction based on past data is imperfect at best.
