Legislative Alert – S.3036 – Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act of 2008

This week the US Senate will be considering and discussing the proposed legislation – S. 3036, the Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act of 2008. This legislation will have a negative impact upon our economy, something we certainly don’t need and would have no effect on reducing carbon in our atmosphere. It only serves to raise energy prices higher than they already are.

An interesting YouTube video depicts Grover Norquist [ATR] asking Senator Barack Obama about what makes him any different from all the other liberal Democrat candidates that have run for President in the last 20 years. Check out RNC’s CanWeAsk website.

The Climate Security Act is based upon the Global Warming Hoax and is designed to cost Americans $1.4 trillion dollars over a period of time, the White House claims it would cost $6 trillion. Either way, it is tax funding ill spent on a hoax that has been a consensus instead of scientific fact.

Act now and tell your senators – NO – to Senate bill #3036 – Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act of 2008. Of course, President Bush has warned the Senate that he would veto the bill.

  1. The Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act of 2008 serves two great purposes for lawmakers: 1) Increases political capital by playing to public fear and a popular trend to mindlessly believing global warming pundits, and 2) Offers tremendous opportunity for patronage dispensing, i.e. pork gone wild! What better chance for politicians to show the American public that they are fighting a noble crusade, while simultaneously offering the usual corporate constituency hundreds of billions in lucrative tax and direct cash subsidies?

Let’s just be honest with each other and stop the Orwellian word-playing nonsense. This is just as much a “Climate Security Act” as Big Brother’s “Ministry of Love” was about hugs and warm fuzzies.

For those of you who’d like to learn a bit more about the non-cultist version of Global Warming, check out the Cato Institutes research:

  2. Rob Viglione:
What you call the “non-cultist” (I assume you are referring to my past articles on the global warming hoax as “cultist”) version is nothing more than a centrist view that demonstrates that the author of the CATO paper contends that the global warming “crisis” is based upon nonsensical data and yet more or less has the attitude – “Oh well, just in case, let’s assume there IS global warming?”
Being responsible for keeping air and water clean as possible is essential for a good environment on this planet; however, I would tend to be more worried about an Ice Age than global warming. If the whole idea is bunk – why waste time with legislation that continues the drive concerning carbon credits, which in turn needlessly causes inflation (increased inflation) supporting a false theory by junk scientists?
The article you refer to by Steve Beradi (your website) is also nonsense “assuming” that global warming is actually happening is not the reason to cause the American people more economic distress.
The EPA was established to set standards of air quality and protection of our waters from pollution and fines those who do not uphold them. That is the only legislation we need – not some hair-brained carbon footprint scheme.
And most of those things on Beradi’s list are things that are up to individuals. Individuals and the common market determine what we do or don’t buy – not any mandate from government and others who spend their lives with their nose in everyone else’s business. Economics governs whether Americans (or anyone) uses the efficiency light bulb that uses 14 watts versus the 60 watt light bulb. Smart people are saving their aluminum cans and selling them by the pound, rather than give them free to the local garbage pickup service who charges for the pickup and makes money off your recycled cans at the same time.
Recycling has become a major business, and so sometimes certain ideas are suspect when it concerns the profit margin rather than what is good for the environment.
And, by the way, if you turn off your air conditioner (this is from Beradi’s article) and wait until you go home to turn it on you will be amazed how much your electric bill will be that month. I know, I tried it. It costs more electricity to try to heat up the house from a 90+ degree temperature than just let it cycle from the thermostat. Just set the thermostat (or purchase one of those digital thermostats that have variable settings) higher so it cycles less frequently. That is what saves money on electric bills.
However, I like the idea that the author, Beradi, dislikes government intervention upon our personal lives. So, are you FOR or against the Lieberman-Warner Act? Your sarcastic Orwellian comment threw me off.

  3. Keith,

I apprecate the detailed response to my comment. Perhaps my sarcasm obscured my position. I am in favor of as little government response to “Global Warming” as possible. To my knowledge, there is more evidence pointing to cooling surface temperatures on the planet, and no evidence conclusively proving humans have irreparably damaged the environment. Environmental preservation is a noble personal crusade one may pursue, but when the cause becomes politicized it often morphs into plain old protectionism and enhanced government scope of authority. The Lieberman-Warner Act is just another expansion of government, in which hundreds of pages of legislation obscure the reality of the potental law, which is billions in pork barrel expenditure earmarked for politically-annoited groups.

Also, regarding Steve Berardi’s article on Freedom Factory, I should point out that he shares my views entirely on the issue. He’s very much against the political Global Warming issue and is advocating those who care for the environment to take matters into their own hands. Good point regarding the air conditioner strategy…I suppose he missed that one, but everything else he says is designed to get people to think about what they can personally do to help the environment, versus running to government to fix their problems or champion their causes.

  4. Bob V:
Thanks for clearing that up and taking the time to comment.
And I agree with you and Steve Berardi – citizen journalists need to encourage folks to think – and think for themselves, so to speak.
    Good comment – thanks.
