Myth Blaster: "Closer To Reality Than You Think"

Donald E. Farr, Friend of LPJ, and Pen Pal, of sorts, sent this email he received through forwards. This article is a combination of Myth Blaster investigation and a note Off the Cuff. First the email sent to me by Don, supposedly from a Robert C. Cline and no specific source, but at least a name of an author.

But WHO IS Robert C. Cline? Or, rather WHICH Robert C. Cline? Did he really write this?

The findings will be written after the Off-the-Cuff presentation below and the transcript of the original. The Off-the-Cuff commentary was included as a background to the gist of what the story is supposed to represent, in this case, the violation of the Second Amendment (see MCSM), which 38 of the 50 states comply (Wisconsin not one of them and is only one of two states that completely prohibit concealed carry by private citizens – what does that tell you about Obama policy supporter with Milwaukee Sentinel as his media mouthpiece Jim Doyle and his gang in Madison? Even open-carry is severely restricted), and the Alabama permit is honored in 19 other states), and which the Supreme Court has ignored or fell asleep at the wheel on this important issue.

First, we have to start insisting that the author provide a name, even a pseudonym if necessary, as well as where their sources come from. It would help NOT to forward it if it doesn’t meet that criterion, even if it is interesting and possibly informative, if true. I will begin it with the quote from the email by Samuel Adams – which is a true quote:

…it does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people’s minds.

This is what socialists do well, and the April-15th Democratic Party has come to be an expert on. They cause internal strife through what has become known as class warfare or class envy, for a better term, but listed as class conflict – making those of us who are “blue collar” workers feel jealous and angry at those who have worked hard to obtain wealth and built up businesses to be successful (also see Heritage research article), which in reality provides them with employment – and they didn’t or couldn’t try (called applying oneself to achieve a goal) to do the same. The end result is that the business entity fails because of this phenomenon, or workers are laid off because they cannot afford the demands of what the government requires or the trade/labor unions (U.S. and abroad – see Cuba link] in order to stay in business. The political left, socialists and communists, exploit and use this as a tool to achieve their ultimate agenda. [Editor's note: President-elect Barack Hussein Obama has chosen Hillary Clinton as his Secretary of State]. However, in the past decade, the Republicans have bent towards appeasing, as well as setting up their own agenda against conservative platform.

The best system for all is a corporation and business entity that provides a profit-sharing program. This encourages workers to endeavor to keep the overhead down, without unions involved, (or until total reformation takes place) and then get a part of the profits as a result. It makes for better business and better employment conditions. The pay scale may not be as grand as one may wish for, but the profit-sharing program makes up for it. Some may call this a form of socialism, but this is coming from libertarian ideology, unless that share program involves the government directly or indirectly – it is, in fact, just good business that wants good, loyal employees for everyone’s success. A well-known example would be Wal-Mart and its associates program – yet some leftist Moonbats are decrying about something when they don’t even know how profit-sharing works at Wal-Mart. I have accumulated a nice profit just in stocks this year which includes Wal-Mart paying a premium, plus the dividends received during a year’s time – all during a recession. Have I lost a bit – you bet, but I not only kept the money in there, but continue a payroll deduction amount to increase the shares. We will see at end of year how much profit I made because the government is going to take their share, despite already taking income taxes directly before I even see my gross paycheck I earned. A retired Wal-Mart driver tells all at his website.

There is even a law firm investigating the program, which has been around awhile and recently is better going from profit-sharing by the quarter instead of waiting for the whole year. This, is, by the way, taxable income. Investigation does not mean any guilt – it is just a process to determine or make sure that things are according to corporate law and business ethics on behalf of workers. Wal-Mart is (always) under attack by those who think that it unfair that the labor unions don’t have their finger in the pie. Moonbats, leftists have a site to take down Wal-Mart, rather try to. Remember what happened to Wal-Mart under the corrupted leadership of Attorney General Reno? Microsoft litigation, which caused the corporate split and the result is the garbage they call Vista OS – which Bill Gates said publicly, sucks. Historically, this will kill the profit-sharing program. Just as Microsoft was truly not a violator of any dated law (but outdated Anti-Trust law), it fell because of the political left, a senator in California, and jealous companies who wanted to see the corporation go down, and a couple who went bankrupt without any sort of shenanigans from Microsoft. The EU got on the bandwagon, or should I say the money cart as well. Bill Gates was proud of his corporation’s business ethics, which began as a small business and became worldwide – and he rewarded those who contributed, and watching his life’s dream being destroyed by liberal-socialist, greedy entities – he recently stepped down. (See Fair Tax Act, something that won’t ever happen as long as the American liberal-socialists are in power or Moonbats who publish blogs, showing that these people neither read John Linder’s proposed legislation-bill or have read the book, co-authored by Neal Boortz and John Linder).

And, in case you noticed how things work in the REAL world, not the Utopia painted up by American liberal-progressive-socialists as the future of America. There cannot be a future in a socialist state [see also: US Politics Online] or even a partially socialist state because the political left who call themselves liberals cannot draw a line in the sand – it ultimately, in various degrees and time periods, fails economically – and ruins more than one generation that comes to know nothing else because the media becomes state operated, along with banks and other financial institutions, and soon the American automobile industry, which has failed because of short-sighted CEOs, as well as intrusive government interference. Products sold should be determined by the mass public – what the people want, not what a government THINKS the people need, or rather those RUNNING the government thinks you and I need. Freedom of choice, one of the prime liberties is slipping away because Americans are afraid to accept personal responsibility for their choices. It is much easier to leave it into the hands of others, and then when it goes wrong (and our government has a bad history of most of it backfiring or going wrong, where the common people-citizen suffer most) – blame it wrongly on a specific entity, which directs the anger of the people from the true source of the dilemma/issue. It even helps deflect anger away from themselves.

The German Nazi, under Adolf Hitler, leader of the Nazi Party and ruler of Germany in the 1930s, was against socialists – an ultimate hypocrisy because while Stalin killed hundreds of thousands, more likely millions; Hitler killed six million and more – mostly Jews. Stalin killed anybody that stood in his way or was suspected of being against him. This bit of history is used in a socialist’s argument.

Sound familiar?

Here is the main story in the forwarded email [edited for grammar only]:

Robert C Cline wrote:
Closer to Reality than You Think -
You’re sound asleep when you hear a thump outside your bedroom door.
Half-awake, and nearly paralyzed with fear, you hear muffled whispers. At
least two people have broken into your house and are moving your way.
With your heart pumping, you reach down beside your bed and pick up your shotgun. You rack a shell into the chamber, then inch toward the door and open it. In the darkness, you make out two shadows
.
One holds something that looks like a crowbar. When the intruder brandishes [the crowbar] it as if to strike, you raise the shotgun and fire. The blast knocks both thugs to the floor. One writhes and screams while the second man crawls to the front door and lurches outside. As you pick up the telephone to call police, you know you’re in trouble.
In your country, most guns were outlawed years before, and the few That are privately owned are so stringently regulated as to make them useless
.
Yours was never registered. Police arrive and inform you that the second burglar has died. They arrest you for First Degree Murder and Illegal Possession of a Firearm. When you talk to your attorney, he tells you not to worry: authorities will probably plea the case down to manslaughter.
“What kind of sentence will I get?” you ask.
“Only ten-to-twelve years,” he replies, as if that’s nothing. “Behave yourself, and you’ll be out in seven.”
The next day, the shooting is the lead story in the local newspaper.
Somehow, you’re portrayed as an eccentric vigilante while the two men you shot are represented as choirboys. Their friends and relatives can’t find an unkind word to say about them. Buried deep down in the article
, authorities acknowledge that both “victims” have been arrested numerous times. But the next day’s headline says it all: “Lovable Rogue Son Didn’t Deserve to Die.” The thieves have been transformed from career criminals into Robin Hood-type pranksters. As the days wear on, the story takes wings. The national media picks it up, then the international media. The surviving burglar has become a folk hero.
Your attorney says the thief is preparing to sue you, and he’ll probably win. The media publishes reports that your home has been burglarized several times in the past and that you’ve been critical of local police for their lack of effort in apprehending the suspects. After the last break-in, you [are] told your neighbor that you would be prepared next time.
The District Attorney uses this to allege that you were lying in wait for the burglars.
A few months later, you go to trial. The charges haven’t been reduced, as your lawyer had so confidently predicted. When you take the stand, your anger at the injustice of it all works against you. Prosecutors paint picture of you as a mean, vengeful man. It doesn’t take long for the jury to convict you of all charges
.
The judge sentences you to life in prison.
This case really happened
.
On August 22, 1999, Tony Martin of Emneth, Norfolk, [A] England, killed one
burglar and wounded a second. In April, 2000, he was convicted and is now serving a life term
.
How did it become a crime to defend one’s own life in the once great British Empire?
It started with the Pistols Act of 1903. This seemingly reasonable law forbade selling pistols to minors or felons and established that handgun sales were to be made only to those who had a license. The Firearms Act of 1920 expanded licensing to include not only handguns but all firearms except shotguns.
Later laws passed in 1953 and 1967 outlawed the carrying of any weapon by private citizens and mandated the registration of all shotguns.
Momentum for total handgun confiscation began in earnest after the Hungerford mass shooting in 1987. Michael Ryan, a mentally disturbed man with a Kalashnikov rifle, walked down the streets shooting everyone he saw. When the smoke cleared, 17 people were dead
.
The British public, already de-sensitized by eighty years of “gun control”, demanded even tougher restrictions. (The seizure of all privately owned handguns was the objective even though Ryan used a rifle.)
Nine years later, at Dunblane, Scotland, Thomas Hamilton used a semi-automatic weapon to murder 16 children and a teacher at a public school.
For many years, the media had portrayed all gun owners as mentally unstable or worse, criminals. Now the press had a real kook with which to beat up law-abiding gun owners. Day after day, week after week, the media gave up all pretense of objectivity and demanded a total ban on all handguns.
The Dunblane Inquiry, a few months later, sealed the fate of the few sidearm still owned by private citizens.
During the years in which the British government incrementally took A[a]way gun rights, the notion that a citizen had the right to armed self-defense came to be seen as vigilantism. Authorities refused to grant gun licenses to people who were threatened, claiming that self-defense was no longer considered a reason to own a gun. Citizens who shot burglars or robbers or rapists were charged while the real criminals were released.
Indeed, after the Martin shooting, a police spokesman was quoted as saying, “We cannot have people take the law into their own hands.”
All of Martin’s neighbors had been robbed numerous times, and several elderly people were severely injured in beatings by young thugs who had no fear of the consequences.
Martin himself, a collector of antiques, had seen most of his collection trashed or stolen by burglar
s.
When the Dunblane Inquiry ended, citizens who owned handguns were given three months to turn them over to local authorities. Being good British subjects, most people obeyed the law. The few who didn’t were visited by police and threatened with ten-year prison sentences if they didn’t comply. Police later bragged that they’d taken nearly 200,000 handguns from private citizens.
How did the authorities know who had handguns? The guns had been
registered and licensed. Kinda [sic] like cars.

WAKE UP AMERICA; THIS IS WHY OUR FOUNDING FATHERS PUT THE SECOND AMENDMENT IN OUR CONSTITUTION.

Myth Blaster Verdict: Varied, see results below, as well as determined to be: Robert A. Waters, author of two books about stories concerning folks who defend themselves under the rights of the Second Amendment – THE original source/author – not Robert C. Cline. No essay under his name appears anywhere in any search, however an article at News With Views, only source found that provides credit to the author, published it under the correct title (Where We’re Headed by Robert Waters) – I verified with Mr. Waters via email and await a reply, but knowing the reputation of News with Views - this source is correct. In the meantime, I highly suggest those bloggers who published this email chain letter junk, either give the true author credit with permission to print its entirety (which appears this is the case) – or remove it from their archive – and stop blindly forwarding email. In my case, this is an investigation to find true author. Don Farr brought this to my attention, as he usually does concerning questionable email, but forgot to post his comment/take on this particular email forwarded to him. It would have been better if the person forwarding ensured proper identification was made – thus one of the problems with Chain Email

Compelling and well put together, this email just had to be published. After my research, I have put his books on my “Wish List“.

The first thing I did was search for the name Robert C. Cline.  The name given, not real person or “borrowed”, had to be researched. Google came up with the following, in order as Google rates it, with the rest I determined to be possible authors, for example:

Robert Clines at GovTech, news, articles and events – chief information topics in government.

Robert C. Cline at Spout where information can be found about actors, actresses, directors, et cetera.

Not likely, but included: Robert C. Cline at OLDIES – Cinematographer concerning Boxart, monster making, et cetera.

Robert C. Cline, petitioner-Appellant v. Dr, George J. Beto.

Or, it could have been an American citizen not known to the public named Robert C. Cline in the Yellow Pages or White Pages.

Next step was searching by title of email entry – Closer to Reality Than You Think. Here, results, if published, will appear from other websites who check out email stories, hoaxes, et cetera. Because of the title being changed as well, which demonstrates that this plagiarism was intentional, it wasn’t until the third or fourth process of my research that I finally stumbled on the real author and title …

Nothing at Break the Chain, as of this date.

Blog, Old NFO [blog name: Nobody Asked Me]published by -

an old retired Navy Mustang back working since I kinda like to eat once in a while. Raised in the South, but lived all over the world. [See complete profile HERE]

While the pretty much same thing is published here – there is no mention of an author or source, except those within the original story, except for changes in the ending:

Sound familiar, have we heard this plan lately???

The author provides no name and doesn’t even quote (sorry, retired Navy Mustang, fellow veteran) or affirm as to where HE got this story – in reality, it appears as a story originated at this site. That is if one doesn’t research. I think it is a good blog, but author/publisher needs to affirm or relay the fact that he didn’t write the story and attempt to locate who the real author is and real title. He trusted someone he knew (probably) and didn’t figured that the person sending had no idea of its origination either. This is plagiarism, a growing problem on the Internet. Reveal sources, provide credit – always (if you cannot find/verify, otherwise state “author unknown” or “source unknown” – or don’t publish it, no matter how good it looks or represents what you may be writing about. A good rule that is still demanded in higher educational institutions like colleges (high school courses too), universities, et cetera. Too many folks out there who for some reason, fail to check – and others, just plain plagiarism in various forms. Once in a while, we mistakenly trust someone because of their consistence, and that has happened to me in the early stages of this e-journal-turned-blog, founded in 1999.

There are other mentions of this topic, like The Voice, which follows my copy but does not mention that this blog is not the originator as well. Posted as admin, however, it also has a linked word News, which directs to a general news page within the blog (well done) – but again no information as to WHERE it came from. The Admin link goes to the same page. Again, it appears to be the work of that blogger. Probably unintentional, providing the benefit of the doubt. Famous authors get in trouble like this, so keep your notes handy and in order when writing with your sources, columnist/lawyer/author, Ann Coulter got in trouble this way. Of course, the Left was there to eat her up on it because of her sometime venomous paragraphs.

Searching Snopes (pronounced “snoops”) comes up with nothing at this article’s date (I have to emphasize this because some commentators state they need this spelled out, specifically). Nothing as well at Hoax Slayer. Or other reputable websites that are generally resourceful and objective; however, remember that Snopes folks are bias [Urban Legends, About [Snopes sometimes calls itself "urban legends" - which came first, I haven't determined] when it comes to political determinations.

Urban Legends (About) did not have an entry concerning this as of this date.

And, finally, the sources and/or persons mentioned within the body of the story:

  1. Tony Martin, Emneth, Norfolk, England.
  2. Michael Ryan mentally disturbed man with a Kalashnikov rifle. This one is what I call a second-hand source, from a thread. Another source is only a blog – Hecates Crossroad entitled The Product of Incrementalism and reveals an essay attributed to Robert A. Waters entitled Where We’re Headed. Up to this point the best source yet in finding the origin of this story, “essay“. However, after finding or rather following the link, it merely is the same written material under a different name. So, I looked up Robert A. Waters and found he is the author of Best Defense and Outgunned. Checking out the books with no access to all pages without reading, which I will have to find at library for this – I am trying to contact Mr. Waters directly as well – but found the article by chance under another title. The name given in email is either made up or flat out plagiarism. See the links to the title of his books above. The real and original author – Robert A. Waters of this so-called “essay” – probably stolen from one of his two books, but was publicized (and properly credited) by News with Views. Note, Outgunned! is co-authored by John T. Waters, Jr. (interviewed at Oral History entitled Second Armored Division, 67th Armored Regiment and Military Decorations. Robert A. Waters website reveals more with an offer to have a signed copy of his book. It is true stories about real-life citizens who stood up to outlaws – and won.
  3. Thomas Hamilton – …murdered 16 children and a teacher at a public school. (Also see Dunblane Inquiry)
  4. Dunblane Inquiry. I also linked this in transcribed material.

And, in conclusion, email forwarded usually has something added that if you send or forward it to so many people, usually seven to twenty, it will be good luck for you – and other such nonsense. Well, after verifying one particular email a while back, I tried this. After all, who doesn’t want a bit of luck thrown into hard work that results are better than waiting around for fate or the government to do something about it? And I was curious.

The results were: our cat died two weeks later, and our little PomeranianWoodstock, broke her leg, resulting in an eventual amputation (see Woodstock Update). Based upon the ideology of luck, I have determined that these forwarded emails, if complied with bring only BAD luck, which follows their assumed philosophy.

Fate sometimes is involved in our lives – but it is the choices and what we do about it that determines what happens in our lives, not meant for us to sit around and wait for fate to change. Don’t wail about the dilemma or issue – DO something about it. Never accept fate or circumstances caused by fate as the ultimate situation of things – ever. It is not like the old culture where fate is written [see Kismet] in the Book of Life and we cannot do anything about it. Although sometimes things seem to be just meant to be – like good things – meeting or finding the love of your life, for example. Kismet is a strange, and sometimes wonderful thing. I can attest to that.

And remember this: if we are going to copy what has happened in England, the United Kingdom in general, than we must accept the fact that our outcome will be the same and that the English have found that taking guns away from citizens and not even allowing them to protect themselves in their home, is not only a violation against liberties and rights men and women fought and died for, but we will be following the footsteps of THEIR admitted mistakes, yet refuse to change their laws. God bless the English (since John Adams, and after War of 1812 – but especially after the World Wars, Irish, Scots and Welsh (Thomas Jefferson, as well as my mother’s family were Welsh, but my family lost the language.), who have proven to be our most valuable of allies – but let us return as the role model of the world and quit making social experiments that ultimately failed in history and will fail today.

And that concludes this issue of Myth Blaster, written also as Off the Cuff.

If you send this to two or more people – nothing will happen, except I will have more readers reading my articles and meet more interesting people, well most of them.

banner_merry-christmas_animated-01 Have a very Merry Christmas – the folks in charge for the next four years have been determined in the last twenty years to filter, dilute, destroy and erase the traditions of Christmas – especially the original intent, and now even picking on poor Santa Claus, sometimes called Saint Nick, in other places – Father Christmas (England) or Kris Kringle (Christkindl, Germany), et cetera, based upon a real person who lived long ago, of which I visited his birthplace – Saint Nicholas, sainted by the powers of the Roman Catholic Church, the official Vatican term being: Canonization. As a result, Christmas has been a day, a traditional holiday, with alternatives elsewhere, depending on the culture; which has become thought of in today’s youth’s mind – a day to get gifts and expensive things they want. The stores seem to be displaying Christmas products earlier and earlier – and this is not really intentional, they have to make the seasonal and holiday changes because in retail time, it isn’t much time between Thanksgiving Day and Christmas; however, before Halloween has hardly finished and Halloween products are on sale at 50% and 75% off – Christmas trees are put up and lit, along with the initial shipments. This year the Christmas music was piped in BEFORE Thanksgiving at Wal-Mart stores. As Witchy Woman (not the hit song by the Eagles) at Venting Volcano states at the end of her venting articles: What’s with that?

What have we done?

Who has been behind it?

It isn’t just the political left. We have more special days on the calendar thanks to Hallmark marketing, an historical greeting card entity and the efforts of many other retail entities.

We emphasize Christmas gift shopping over the emphasis on what the spirit of Christmas is and how it began, tailored from the festivities of the Pagans when the early Christian Church decided to separate it and announce it as Christ’s birth celebration – they didn’t really know what month he was born, only educated guessing pouring through research material available. But the tradition is old, and should be maintained from its original, at least the Victorian Christmas, a combination of modernity and yet recognizing the original nativity – and even that has its slight variations. See Wikipedia entry.

Members of the Democratic Party and those who call themselves independents or centrists, but follow the socialist mantra philosophy of Karl Marx. See Democratic Party (United States) Wikipedia entry.

Christmas Day will soon be changed forever, at this rate – and the Nativity Story, traditional and believed by the faithful of the followers of a prophet, philosopher, social (”community”) organizer [sic] (see Common Dreams, Nation Master and political spin of Daily Kos) – Holy Man, Jewish reformer, son of a well-known (then) and successful carpenter, and founder of the Christian religion – Jesus of Nazareth see Catholic Encyclopedia), also called The Christ and to the Church: redeemer, bearer of world sin, sufferer among tens of thousands under Roman rule; who died by crucifixion [also see medical aspects, as well as origin and history] for the good of the world and the place beyond.

Remember – if you don’t know who a person is (Robert C. Cline) – don’t forward work, essays, stories, unless you know for sure they are the true author. You have unwittingly become a part in a plagiaristic act. Plagiarism and violation of a copyright act are two separate things. Truth will prevail.

Happy Holidays!: (Christmas, Hanukkah, Hijrah (New Year, January 20th, 1428 H.), as well as a great New Year celebration for the rest of us who use the Gregorian Calendar.

[A] Yes, the original Norfolk was in England – makes sense since one time our original Thirteen States were English colonies.
